Morbius Director Explains Why Jared Leto Is the Only Actor Who Can Play the Marvel Anti-Hero
Morbius Director Daniel Espinosa has explained why he thinks Jared Leto is the only actor who could do the titular character justice. As part of a new production release package for Morbius courtesy of sonyEspinosa praised the Oscar-winning actor and said casting Leto in the lead role wasn’t really a choice, “it was predestination.”
“Jared Leto was the only actor who could really play the role of Morbius. It wasn’t really a choice – it was predestination. Jared is a beautiful actor to work with – he comes to the set fully prepared, fully immersed in his character. He became known for his approach to his characters, but it was really surprising how much emotionality he could squeeze out of Dr. Michael Morbius. He has a strong dedication, from start to finish, and more than ‘just an actor. He’s a colleague, a partner.”
Leto has become well known for playing transformative roles, with the likes of recent Gucci House and his Oscar-winning role in 2013 Dallas Buyers Club being perfect examples. Often rendered unrecognizable for its portrayals of various characters, Morbius is all about transformation, as Leto’s Dr. Michael Morbius infects himself with what turns out to be a form of vampirism. The latest installment in the Sony Spider-Man universe will see Leto undergo multiple transformations as he slowly transitions from human to monster, and with that in mind, could be considered Jared Leto’s starring role.
Jared Leto also thinks Morbius is the perfect role for him
Morbius will introduce one of the most compelling and divisive characters in Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters, as Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic anti-hero Michael Morbius. Dangerously afflicted with a rare blood disease and determined to save others suffering the same fate, Dr. Morbius takes a desperate gamble. While at first glance it seems like a radical success, a darkness in him is unleashed. Will good prevail over evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?
Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson. Espinosa isn’t the only one who believes Morbius is the perfect role for Jared Leto, with Leto himself having previously revealed why he too thinks the Marvel anti-hero is perfect for him and how that plays into his love for them. transformations.
“Morbius gave me the opportunity to have this character who really does three pretty big transformations – He starts very, very sick looking for a cure for the disease…then he finds a cure and he gets powerful and stronger than it has ever been before,” the actor explains. “Then there is another transformation that happens. It was kind of the perfect role for me. Honestly, I liked that. »
Morbius is set to release in the US on April 1, 2022, delayed from an original July 2020 date primarily due to the current global situation.
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Michael Keaton confirms he’ll return as the Vulture in Sony’s Morbius while explaining his confusion over the cinematic multiverse.
