I overcame fear of STIs after being too petrified to cope
DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN I first wrote to you, I was in such a panic.
An ex-boyfriend had contacted me to tell me he had chlamydia and that I might have it too.

If that wasn’t enough, I had just found out that I was pregnant with my new boyfriend and I didn’t know how to tell him that I might have given him an STI.
I was also worried about the health of our baby.
I’m 24 and couldn’t sleep because I was worried. I feared losing my baby as well as my new boyfriend, who is 26 years old.
You reassured me that I shouldn’t be afraid to go to a sexual health clinic, or to my GP, for a simple test.
You also gave me information about chlamydia on the NHS website which explained how it could be treated.
You made me feel less alone. And I’m so happy to tell you that my test came back negative.
I am now 25 weeks pregnant and everything is going great.
My boyfriend and I are happy and healthy.
Thank you so much for giving me the push I needed and holding my hand.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m so relieved for you. Fear can keep us from doing what makes sense.
