COVID is not the only disease circulating | Local
Have you social distanced? Wear a mask? Avoid social gatherings? Hey wait!! These are precautions to protect you from COVID-19, and COVID is not the only disease currently spreading in our community.
Chlamydia also circulates. The protection is similar, however. The most effective way to avoid any sexually transmitted disease is abstinence – no sex. But it’s not really convenient for everyone.
There are other ways to protect yourself from this disease: being in a relationship with only one person who only has sex with you, wearing condoms to protect yourself and your partner, and getting tested once a year.
Ashland County Public Health performs free testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea and offers treatment for the patient and their partner. It’s quick and easy. Call a public health nurse Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to schedule an appointment. You get results and treatment when needed.
Treating chlamydia stops it from spreading. Many people who have it don’t even know it because they have no symptoms. But it can continue to spread, even if there are no symptoms. And it can affect fertility, if left untreated. We all need to do our part to reduce our risks and protect those we love.
