222 Zambo-positive patients benefit from the PhilHealth treatment package
CITY OF ZAMBOANGA – The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) said about 222 people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) in the region have benefited from the agency’s treatment program this year.
Philip Cataylo of PhilHealth 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) said Thursday that the agency has so far released around PHP 1.7 million, each of 222 PLHIV having received a treatment package of PHP 7,500.
The package covers laboratory tests, professional fees and drugs.
Cataylo said those who received the treatment package were being treated at treatment centers at Zamboanga City Medical Center and Corazon C. Aquino Hospital in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
HIV is the virus that carries Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
The virus attacks the patient’s immune system which weakens and can get sick immediately due to the weak immune system.
Before patients are signed up for treatment, they are counseled and tested.
If the result is reactive or positive, the sample will be sent to the laboratory of the STD-AIDS Cooperative Center at San Lazaro Hospital for confirmatory testing.
Treatment will begin immediately as prescribed by the doctor. (ANP)
